Ward 7 candidate Kevin Chavous arrested on solicitation charge

By Mike DeBonis

(Kevin B. Chavous) Kevin B. Chavous, a Democrat running for the Ward 7 D.C. Council seat, was arrested early Friday morning on charges of soliciting a prostitute.

His campaign manager, Lamont Harrell, confirmed the arrest, which he said was part of a “sting operation.”

“Kevin was clearly targeted and was not soliciting in any way,” Harrell said. Chavous intends to hire an attorney and fight any charges, he added.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the arrest and said incident occurred shortly after midnight on the unit block of K Street NE.

Chavous has been charged with solicitation for lewd and immoral purposes, Officer Tisha Gant said. Court records related to the charge were not immediately available.

Chavous, 27, is the son of former Ward 7 council member Kevin P. Chavous and is one of several candidates looking to unseat incumbent Yvette M. Alexander (D).
